Tristan J.M. Hummel, a Chicago artist internationally recognized for alternative exhibitions, brings his first 'In gallery' experience to Betty Dare through his own solo show: Communication is the great production of understanding each other. A commonality of symbols or language used in communication is so central to a community that it becomes a large part of what defines it. If understanding represents the community then misunderstanding must represent the individual. That is what To Every Their Own poses through a series of prints, representations, metaphor and experience. Influenced by the works of Pierre Bourdieu, Andy Warhol, and Claude Monet, to name only a few, this exhibition aims to examine the interplay between the individual and the field. It will explain how misunderstanding is not a linear hierarchy but rather a field unto itself where originality and experimentation run rampant.
